An action adventure game with a third-person camera, made in cooperation with European Space Agency and developed by Don't Nod. Aphelion tells the story of Ariane and Thomas. Their ship crash lands on the icy planed Persephone. The protagonists must explore the planet and learn about its dangerous secrets.
Aphelion is an action-adventure game, developed in cooperation with the European Space Agency (ESA). The game was created by the French studio Don't Nod, known for the first two parts of the Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden.
Aphelion presents us with a grim vision of the future, in which by 2060 the Earth will not be suitable for habitation. However, a newly discovered planet on the outskirts of the Solar System is a beacon of hope for humanity.
As part of the research mission Hope 01, called Persephone, ESA sends two astronauts - Ariane and Thomas, who share something more than just work. When their ship crashes, the protagonists are separated and trapped on a freezing planet. Their problems do not end there, as the land covering this globe hides a dangerous secret.
The goal of Ariane and Thomas is to survive, find each other, and complete the mission assigned to them, which is to determine whether people could actually live on Persephone.
In Aphelion the action is viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP).
While exploring the surface of Persephone, we can make use of a range of research tools. We were given the Pathfinder scanner and a rope with a small anchor, which allows us to access hard-to-reach places. We also need to pay attention to the oxygen level in our spacesuit's tank.
Observation and agility can prove to be useful. There are plenty of platforming elements, as well as exciting scenes of fighting for life in a hostile environment. The icing on the cake are the stealth sequences, requiring us to act quietly.
As we progress, we learn more about the icy planet, and we gradually uncover fragments of the mystery associated with the phenomenon that bends reality, which threatens Ariane and Thomas.
