A spin-off of the popular series of post-apocalyptic shooters, developed by Vertigo Games with VR headsets in mind. Metro Awakening has us play as Serdar - a doctor trying to find his wife and obtain medicine her life depends on.
Metro Awakening is a spin-off of the FPS series launched The 7th Guest VR. The game represents the action adventure genre and was created with virtual reality headsets in mind.
The action of Metro Awakening takes place in a post-apocalyptic reality, specifically - in the Moscow metro, which is home to the remaining inhabitants of the Russian capital who managed to escape the nuclear annihilation.
The events in the game take place in 2028, five years before Artyom's adventure from Metro 2033 (which were presented both in the book and in the game of the same title). The main character of the game is Serdar - a doctor who travels through underground tunnels, trying to find his missing wife, as well as obtain the medicine that keeps her alive. Given that the metro is teeming with all sorts of dangers, the expedition quickly turns into a real struggle for survival.
In Metro Awakening we watch the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). Traversing through the tunnels bathed in darkness and claustrophobic metro stations, we must constantly be on guard, as danger may lurk at every step.
The main danger to Serdar comes from hostile people and mutated creatures. Even though the hero can use firearms, a better solution than openly attacking enemies is to sneak behind their backs and eliminate them by surprise.
Serdar also has to deal with both deadly radiation (he can be protected by special filters) and supernatural forces.

Game Ratings for Metro Awakening Video Game.
Daily Mirror: 3 / 5 by Aaron Potter
, Metro Awakening gets a lot of things right when it comes to aping the look and atmosphere of those original two Metro games. The act of scavenging for resources and surviving using your light and gas mask feels great, but it’s mixed in with fast-paced combat that works fine on a flat screen but is overly cumbersome in a VR format.
TheGamer: 3.5 / 5 by Jade King
Metro Awakening is an irable attempt at translating the post-apocalyptic shooter series into virtual reality, and at its best is a poignantly atmospheric marvel with great controls and an unrivalled sense of place. Yet it is also held back by poor checkpoints and combat, which quickly falls into a repetitive game of cat and mouse between very stupid enemies. It learns all the right lessons from masterpieces like Half-Life: Alyx without introducing enough new innovations of its own, and because of that, it suffers.
Screen Rant: 8 / 10 by Jason Hon
While Metro Awakening's world-building and the depth of its characters will inspire players to want to check out the franchise's other installments, the game delivers another engaging VR adventure that takes advantage of immersive technology. It doesn't push the boundaries of the medium to the extent that the revolutionary Half-Life: Alyx or the criminal-invested Batman: Arkham Shadow, but Metro Awakening helps push the storytelling potential that immersive VR gaming can provide.
