Another part of the Valkyrie Profile series. This time, the young hero takes revenge on the divine struggle, which in the past deprived him of his father.
Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume is the third installment of the Valkyrie Profile RPG series. The first part of the saga appeared on PlayStation and PSP consoles. The next one was released in 2006 on PlayStation 2. It was developed by Tri-Ace studio. The publisher of Covenant of the Plume is Square Enix.
In the game, we play as a young soldier, Wylfred, who seeks revenge on the Valkyrie Lenneth, who killed his father when he was young. After this event, Wylfred's family had a lot of trouble due to lack of resources, which also ended with the death of his sister. Our hero, after receiving a magic feather from Lenneth's wings, decides to embark on a dangerous journey to become a great warrior and defeat the hated Valkyrie. His friends, the warrior Ansel and Ailyth, a beautiful emissary from Niflheim, will help him to do that. Apart from the main goal, we also have to face the problems inside the kingdom, which is facing a war.
Most of the time we observe the action from isometric view. An important element of this game is the strategic combat, which allows us to attack using several characters ing each other. Behind this model of fighting is a special Mutual Assist system. When only the enemy is nearby, we can attack him alternately with different warriors assigned to the buttons. With each blow we gain an energy gauge used to perform powerful attacks called Soul Crushes. In addition, we can use a variety of tactical combat formations, having a positive impact on our strength.
The already mentioned magic feather, called Goddess's Feather, also has interesting properties. During the fight it provides an extremely mighty power to the selected person. After the end of the fight, however, the character simply evaporates. The power of the feather, because of the cruel consequences of its use, is useful only in extremely critical moments.
The game was made with great attention to detail. Stylistically, it is a classic example of Japanese RPG. So you can expect very dynamic fights full of special effects and complicated spectacular attacks.
